About me
Photo of meI am an associate professor at Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Poland), Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. My research is conducted at the Department of Artificial Intelligence.

My main research is focused on computational social science / social network analysis, in particular:
  • diffusion processes in social networks (e.g. social influence),
  • temporal networks, recently also data streams,
  • machine learning for analysing above mentioned phenomena,
  • blockchain solutions and analysis.

I earned the PhD degree in Computer Science in 2014, and Habilitation (D.Sc.) in Information and Communication Technology in 2022.

I am a member of a Data Science Group at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

In 2017 I established and since that time I lead BERG - Blockchain Exploration Research Group that is doing research on blockchain understood as a complex network.

I actively work on developing the sci·cup platform that enables data scientists to participate in data-driven contests organized by companies.

My PhD supervisor was Professor Przemysław Kazienko.

2022-03-15 The publication in which a mechanism leading to reducing metastable cases for cellular automata algorithm in distributed ledgers has been proposed was accepted for presentation at the 3rd Workshop on Secure IoT, Edge and Cloud systems (SIoTEC) 2022. The work has been co-authored with Piotr Macek, Daria Dziubałtowska and Bartosz Kuśmierz (all from IOTA Foundation). It is titled "Improving Cellular Automata for Distributed Ledgers" and the link to it will be provided after publication. The research on that topic has been conducted within the BERG group.
2022-03-11 New preprint published on arXiv: "Temporal Network Epistemology: on Reaching Consensus in Real World Setting". It studies how large is the influence of network dynamics (modelled using the CogSNet model) on reaching consensus for epistemic networks compared to theoretical network models. This work has been written with Damian Serwata (PWr), Mateusz Nurek (PWr), Bolesław Szymański (RPI), Przemysław Kazienko and Tao Jia (Southwest University).
2021-11-29 I am thrilled to announce that National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) accepted my grant proposal for funding. The title of project is "Modelling social interactions using data streams" (OPUS grant) and the research will last for three years. The aim of the project is to investigate how much information about human interactions can be derived from data streams using representations less complex than social networks.
2021-05-24 On May 28th at the Statistical Physics in Complex Systems (SPiCy) seminar I will be giving a talk titled "On modelling and studying diffusion in social networks - current challenges". Since the meeting is virtual, everyone is invited to join - more details here.
